Justice Department Files to Revoke Citizenship of 40 People
The United States Department of Justice filed complaints to revoke the citizenship of 40 individuals in the largest denaturalization effort in modern history.
The United States Department of Justice filed complaints to revoke the citizenship of 40 naturalized citizens, initiating the largest single-period denaturalization effort in modern history. Attorney General Todd Blanche stated the initiative targets individuals who concealed critical facts from the government to illegally procure citizenship.
Filed across multiple federal districts, the cases allege defendants used willful misrepresentation, concealment of material facts, or lacked good moral character. Specific allegations include espionage on behalf of the Chinese government, marriage fraud, identity theft, and the concealment of prior criminal histories or deportation orders. The filings also target individuals convicted of financial crimes and sexual offenses against minors.
Department officials assert these actions are necessary to maintain national security and restore integrity to the naturalization process. Assistant Attorney General Brett Shumate stated that the individuals involved lied to obtain their citizenship. These claims remain allegations until a court determines liability.
