Ukrainian Drone Units Intercept Russian Attack Aircraft in Zaporizhzhia
Ukrainian drone pilots from the 65th Separate Mechanised Brigade use FPV drones to intercept Russian Molniya drones in the Zaporizhzhia region.
Drone pilots from the 65th Separate Mechanised Brigade are operating from camouflaged underground dugouts in the Zaporizhzhia region to intercept Russian attack drones. Using first-person-view (FPV) drones, the Ronins drone unit targets Russian Molniya aircraft, which are small plane-like drones capable of carrying 10kg antitank mines.
Pilots work in two-person teams, utilizing satellite internet and the Delta battlefield management system to coordinate interceptions within a 30km-deep kill zone straddling the front line. The units maintain a routine of surveillance and interception despite the constant threat of artillery and air-launched bombs.
Some units have reported stability issues with military-grade Starshield connections. These technical challenges coincide with political pressure from U.S. President Donald Trump for Ukraine to make concessions to Russian leader Vladimir Putin. Despite this diplomatic tension, frontline soldiers have expressed a commitment to continue fighting regardless of any potential agreements reached between the two leaders.
