President Pezeshkian Declares U.S. Negotiations Meaningless

President Masoud Pezeshkian says negotiations with the United States are meaningless, accusing Washington of using dialogue as a cover to overthrow the Iranian government.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian declared that negotiations with the United States are meaningless, asserting that Washington uses dialogue as a cover for attempts to overthrow the Islamic Republic of Iran. Speaking during a meeting with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, Pezeshkian claimed the U.S. acts in bad faith and has launched attacks on three separate occasions immediately following talks.

The conflict began in February 2026 with surprise attacks by the U.S. and Israel. While a memorandum of understanding was reached in June, the situation remains at an impasse. Since September 1, the U.S. has shifted from military strikes to economic pressure, though tensions persist in the Strait of Hormuz where Iran has targeted unauthorized vessels and the U.S. maintains a counterblockade of Iranian ports.

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that the conflict cannot be resolved through military means or new sanctions, insisting that only negotiations based on justice and fairness can end the war. Conversely, the U.S. and Israel maintain that military action is necessary to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
