Rahul Gandhi Challenges Narendra Modi to Debate Over Foreign Influence

Rahul Gandhi challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to a debate after both leaders traded accusations of receiving foreign support to influence Indian politics.

Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to an open debate on November 2, 2026, following a series of accusations regarding foreign interference in Indian governance. Gandhi alleged that Modi secured and maintains his office through foreign assistance, claiming that foreigners control India's financial system and social media platforms.

The dispute began after Modi delivered a speech in Gujarat on October 31, where he characterized the political opposition as an "Avrodh Paksh" (obstructionist force) rather than a constructive democratic opponent. Modi alleged that anti-India forces were backing the opposition and questioned the nature of secret meetings held by opposition leaders abroad.

The Bharatiya Janata Party responded by labeling Gandhi a "lousy con artist." BJP spokesperson C R Kesavan accused Gandhi of seeking foreign intervention in internal affairs and alleged that Congress leaders, including Sonia Gandhi, have links to organizations associated with George Soros. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai dismissed Gandhi's claims as frivolous attempts to mislead the public.

Parallel to these exchanges, Gandhi led an INDIA bloc rally in Delhi to allege electoral irregularities in the 2024 general election. This sentiment was echoed by Samajwadi Party leader ST Hasan, who claimed that 25 lakh votes went missing in an unfair election process.
