Brazil and U.S. Resume Dialogue Over Trade Tariffs

Brazilian and U.S. officials held a virtual meeting on Monday to resume dialogue regarding tariffs imposed by the Trump administration. Marcio Elias Rosa, Brazil's Industry and Trade Minister, and Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira met with U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer to discuss a 25% tariff on Brazilian products based on allegations of unfair trade practices, alongside a 12.5% tariff linked to forced labor bans.

Brazilian authorities stated that these measures are not compatible with multilateral trade rules. While the meeting served to reopen communication, Marcio Elias Rosa noted that the parties did not make progress on any specific negotiating points during the session.

The talks follow a phone conversation earlier this month between President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and President Donald Trump. The two nations agreed to hold further ministerial meetings after technical discussions take place in the coming weeks.
