A Reuters review found that Donald Trump has mentioned former President Joe Biden at least 890 times since January 1, 2026. Averaging three mentions per day across speeches, interviews, and Truth Social posts, Trump has targeted Biden 210 times regarding the economy, 168 times on immigration, and 138 times on foreign policy and national security.

Trump uses this rhetoric to shift blame for inflation, illegal immigration, and military munitions shortages ahead of the November 3 midterm elections. This strategy coincides with sagging approval ratings and a war with Iran launched by Trump in February, which has caused petrol prices to surge. Trump has dismissed affordability concerns as a "hoax."

The frequency of these mentions peaked during a July NATO summit in Turkey, where Trump referenced Biden 16 times in a single day. Other mentions occurred at the National Prayer Breakfast and the White House Easter Egg Roll.

White House spokeswoman Olivia Wales defended the rhetoric as an effort to clean up the previous administration's failures. Conversely, former Biden official Meghan Hays characterized the focus as an obsession. Despite the strategy, a Politico/Public First survey indicates 43% of Americans blame Trump for current economic conditions, compared to 28% who blame Biden.
