Netanyahu Hails India as Israel's "Crazy Love" Ally Amid Global Delegitimization

Benjamin Netanyahu praised India as a steadfast "Asian ally" with a "crazy love" for Israel, contrasting its support with global delegitimization over the Gaza campaign.

Benjamin Netanyahu praised India as one of Israel's strongest allies during the Jordan Valley Conference in the West Bank on May 28, 2026, describing the nation's support as a "crazy love" and calling India an "Asian ally" that stands apart from the delegitimization Israel faces globally over its military campaign in Gaza.

Netanyahu contrasted India's steadfast backing with the international criticism surrounding Israel's conduct in Gaza, stating that while Israel faces delegitimization in much of the world, it does not face such pressure from India. The remarks highlighted deepening bilateral ties, with India serving as Israel's second-largest trading partner in Asia and signing $8.6 billion in arms deals this year. The two nations are also pursuing an ambitious Free Trade Agreement.

The relationship was formally elevated in February 2026 when Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Jerusalem, establishing a "Special Strategic Partnership for Peace, Innovation and Prosperity." That partnership encompasses cooperation on artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, semiconductors, biotechnology, agriculture, and defense, along with potential linking of India's Unified Payments Interface with Israel's fast payment system.

Despite the strong partnership, Modi has maintained a measured stance on military conflicts. In March, following joint U.S.-Israeli military action against Iran, Modi called for an early cessation of hostilities and emphasized that the "safety of civilians" should remain the top priority.
