Trump Authorizes Ninth Night of Strikes Against Iran

President Donald Trump authorized a ninth consecutive night of airstrikes against Iranian military command centers, air defenses, and coastal surveillance sites on July 20, 2026. The campaign, executed by U.S. Central Command, was launched in honor of three American service members killed in recent Iranian-linked attacks: 1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan and Pvt. Isabella Gonzales at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan, and a soldier in Iraq who died during the controlled detonation of a downed Iranian drone.

Iran retaliated by launching ballistic missiles and drones at U.S. assets across the region. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targeted the Aqaba airport in Jordan, Al-Adiri camp and Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait, and facilities in Bahrain and Syria. Iran also disrupted the Strait of Hormuz, reporting that two oil tankers were destroyed by mines and blocking shipping traffic. In response, the U.S. reimposed a naval blockade on Iranian ports.

The conflict has caused Brent crude prices to climb above $90 per barrel. While U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated the administration remains open to real diplomacy, Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei warned of unforgettable lessons for the United States. This escalation follows the collapse of a June memorandum of understanding brokered by Pakistan, despite current reports that mediators are attempting to convey new de-escalation ideas to Tehran.
