Former Trump Supporters Express Disillusionment With Second Term
A New York Times focus group of former supporters reveals declining support for Donald Trump due to unfulfilled promises and administration conduct.
A focus group of 12 former supporters conducted by the New York Times indicates widespread disillusionment with the second term of Donald Trump. Although the president retains roughly 80 percent support among Republicans, his standing with independent voters has fallen. Participants described feelings of betrayal and annoyance, citing a failure to deliver on campaign promises regarding education, tax breaks, and the reduction of food and gasoline costs.
Respondents criticized the administration for a perceived lack of accountability, the ongoing conflict with Iran, and the president's public disputes with the pope. Grades for the current term ranged from C to F among the group.
Specific interactions within the administration also drove voter dissatisfaction. Some Republican participants cited Vice President JD Vance's treatment of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a meeting in the Oval Office as a primary breaking point.
