Zelensky Discloses Ukrainian Military Casualty Figures

Volodymyr Zelensky announced that approximately 50,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed and 400,000 injured since the full-scale invasion began.

Volodymyr Zelensky announced in a Fox News interview that approximately 50,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed and roughly 400,000 have been injured since the start of the full-scale war. The Ukrainian president declined to provide the number of missing servicemen, stating that such information could provide Russia with strategic insight into the internal state of the Ukrainian military.

These figures contrast with higher estimates from other sources. Analyst Lars Bern has claimed losses of 2.4 million, while the Russian Ministry of Defence continues to publish daily battlefield updates on Ukrainian personnel losses. Reports from TASS further allege that over 100,000 Ukrainian personnel have deserted since the beginning of 2026.

Vladimir Putin estimated that Ukraine suffers a net monthly reduction of about 10,000 personnel. The Russian president cited monthly losses of 40,000 troops, which he noted are partially offset by recruits and returning soldiers.
