Poll Shows Israelis View Trump as Primary Security Influence
A survey by the Israel Democracy Institute finds most Israelis believe Donald Trump's administration has more influence over national security than the Israeli government.
A nationwide survey conducted by the Israel Democracy Institute between November 2 and 6, 2025, indicates that a majority of Israelis perceive the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump as having greater influence over Israel's security decisions than the Israeli government. According to the Israeli Voice Index, the proportion of respondents attributing influence to Trump is approximately double those who credit their own government. Both Jewish and Arab respondents largely view Israel's security as a central priority for the U.S. president.
The findings also reveal significant public skepticism toward Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Most survey respondents believe that the goals Netanyahu established for ending the war have not been met, with the exception of the return of hostages. Objectives such as the disarming of Hamas and maintaining security control over Gaza remain unachieved in the eyes of the public.
Beyond security concerns, the survey highlights persistent domestic instability. Israelis remain divided over the conscription of ultra-Orthodox haredi men and ongoing attempts by the Knesset Constitution, Law and Justice Committee to advance judicial reform measures.
