Ukraine Isolates Crimea Through Strategic Logistics Lockdown Campaign

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has launched a strategic logistics lockdown campaign to isolate Crimea from mainland Russia and cripple Russian military operations in southern Ukraine. Since early April, Ukrainian forces used medium-range drones, such as the FP-2 and Behemoth, to destroy bridges across the Chongar Strait and target supply routes along the Sea of Azov. These operations, combined with strikes on oil refineries in Moscow, have caused fuel and ammunition shortages in the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions.

In late June, Russian-occupied Crimea declared a state of emergency following power outages in Sevastopol and Simferopol, leading Governor Sergey Aksyonov to suspend civilian gasoline sales. President Vladimir Putin acknowledged on June 28 that strikes on infrastructure sites were creating problems and causing a shortage of fuel. The campaign aims to degrade Russian air defenses and force the Russian occupation to wither on the vine.

Russia responded on July 1 by launching massive missile and drone strikes on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities, killing at least 17 people. Despite these retaliatory attacks, the pressure on Crimean logistics has forced the relocation of parts of Russia's Black Sea fleet. U.S. President Donald Trump has reportedly acknowledged that Ukraine is doing pretty well in the conflict.
