John Moolenaar Urges Trump to Maintain Hardline China Policy

House Select Committee on China Chairman John Moolenaar urged President Donald Trump to maintain a hardline stance during an upcoming summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping. In a letter to the president, Moolenaar advocated for stricter restrictions on Chinese access to American semiconductor and AI technologies and warned against making concessions to stabilize relations.

Moolenaar specifically demanded consequences for Chinese entities allegedly providing targeting support for Iranian strikes that killed U.S. service members, characterizing such support as "tantamount to an act of war against the United States." He further urged the administration to reject Chinese objections to U.S. arms sales to Taiwan and continue applying pressure regarding the detention of U.S. citizens.

These demands come as Donald Trump has previously described a $14 billion arms package for Taiwan as a "negotiating chip." Moolenaar and other China hawks expressed concern that the president might soften support for Taiwan to facilitate a diplomatic breakthrough with Xi Jinping.
