Ukraine Strikes Russian and Iran-Linked Vessels in Caspian Sea
Ukrainian forces targeted a Russian warship and Iran-linked cargo vessels in the Caspian Sea following U.S. claims about Russian weapon sales to Iran.
Ukrainian forces conducted long-range strikes in the Caspian Sea on Saturday, targeting a Russian warship and vessels transporting military cargo linked to Iran. Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, announced the operations and described the results as "very strong."
The strikes follow assertions by U.S. President Donald Trump, who stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin assured him Russia was not selling weapons to Iran. Trump noted that such sales would be against Russia's best interests, though Secretary of War Pete Hegseth testified that Russia and China are enabling Iranian activities at various levels.
These developments occur as U.S. intelligence investigates whether Russia provided drone technology or targeting information to Iran. This probe focuses on Iranian strikes against CIA facilities in Iraq and at the U.S. embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, which took place in March.
