Israel Kills Hamas Northern Gaza Brigade Commander

The Israel Defense Forces killed Izz al-Din Bik, the commander of the Hamas Northern Gaza Strip Brigade, in a targeted aerial strike in western Gaza City on September 29, 2026. The strike hit an apartment building or complex in the Nasr neighborhood around dawn, killing Bik and at least one other person.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that Bik was responsible for recruiting militants, planning attacks, and restoring the brigade's force buildup. This operation marks the third Hamas brigade commander eliminated this month and is part of a broader campaign that has targeted at least 20 Hamas figures throughout September.

Israel justifies the intensified strikes by alleging that Hamas violated a US-brokered ceasefire by rearming and launching new attacks. Hamas has denied these allegations and accused Israel of undermining the ceasefire agreement.
