Todd Blanche Defends Trump's Influence Over Justice Department

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche defended President Donald Trump's direct involvement in Justice Department operations following the firing of Pam Bondi.

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche stated on April 14 that Americans should be happy with President Donald Trump's deep involvement in the Justice Department. Blanche, a former personal lawyer for Trump, assumed the role after Trump fired Attorney General Pam Bondi on April 2 for failing to prosecute political opponents, including Leticia James and James Comey.

Blanche defended a Truth Social post by Trump that pressured Bondi to pursue charges against these figures, characterizing the communication as a sign of the president's high expectations. He argued that directing the department is a proper exercise of the commander in chief's authority.

Under Blanche's leadership, the department is prioritizing efforts to counter the alleged weaponization of the Justice Department by Democrats. This initiative follows a report from a weaponization working group regarding the FACE Act, which resulted in the termination of at least four employees. Blanche also commented on failed indictments of six Democratic lawmakers, suggesting that grand jury rejections are not final and that investigations into political foes may continue.
