Qatar Mediates U.S.-Iran Talks to Reopen Strait of Hormuz

The Government of Qatar is mediating peace talks between the United States and Iran aimed at winding down the regional war and reopening the Strait of Hormuz. This diplomatic push follows a projectile strike on a cargo ship northeast of Al Khasab, Oman, which caused damage to the vessel.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent suggested a deal to normalize positions and reopen the strait could be reached imminently. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio reported progress in discussions involving Iran and Oman, though he noted that finality has not yet been achieved.
