Andy Burnham Rules Out Early Election and Immediate EU Reentry

Prime Minister Andy Burnham stated no general election is imminent and ruled out rejoining the European Union during the current Parliament.

Prime Minister Andy Burnham announced on Monday that there will be no general election anytime soon, dismissing speculation of an early vote despite recent polls showing the Labour Party holding an eight-point lead over Reform UK. Speaking to ITV's Good Morning Britain, Burnham stated that his current priority is governing and that the public should put thoughts of an election out of their minds.

While Burnham ruled out rejoining the European Union within the current Parliament, he indicated he could campaign on a promise to rejoin in a future general election. He described the current post-Brexit settlement as not "good enough for Britain" and expressed a personal desire to see the UK rejoin in his lifetime, provided there is public support.

Burnham intends to focus on improving relations with the EU to drive economic growth and address immigration issues, specifically the small boats crisis. He is scheduled to meet with EU leaders, including European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, in Brussels on November 20 to seek a better deal.
