Ken Paxton Cancels Multiple Rallies Amid U.S. Senate Race
Republican Senate candidate Ken Paxton canceled several campaign stops, including a finale at the Alamo, while facing criticism from Democratic opponent James Talarico.
Republican U.S. Senate nominee and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton canceled multiple stops on his "Come and Take It" bus tour in the final days before the November 3 election. On October 29, Paxton scrapped rallies in Tyler, El Paso, and Texarkana to campaign alongside Vice President J.D. Vance in Weatherford and Beaumont. While Paxton returned to Tyler for a rescheduled event at Republic Icehouse on November 1, his campaign later appeared to cancel the tour's intended finale at the Alamo in San Antonio.
The Alamo Trust stated it was unaware of any planned event and noted that its rules generally prohibit political gatherings on the grounds. In place of the San Antonio rally, Paxton's campaign scheduled events in Conroe and Allen. These shifts followed a series of rescheduling efforts in Mission, Texarkana, and El Paso.
Democratic nominee State Representative James Talarico criticized the cancellations, claiming low attendance drove the changes and suggesting Paxton is relying on over $200 million in contributions from Elon Musk. Talarico has countered with his own "Clear Eyes, Full Hearts" get-out-the-vote tour. David Stein, chairman of the Smith County Republican Party, defended the initial schedule changes, stating that the opportunity to campaign with the vice president necessitated the shift.
