He implemented new requirements for these centers, including mandatory local community approval and power self-sufficiency. President Donald Trump characterized the pause as a mistake, while Democratic opponent Gina Hinojosa accused Abbott of flip-flopping for political gain. Abbott maintained that developers failed to secure necessary community support and cited the unique nature of the Texas power grid as justification for the move.
