Qatar Mediates Peace Talks Between United States and Iran

The Government of Qatar is conducting shuttle diplomacy between the United States and Iran to establish a peace deal and end an eight-month war that has caused thousands of deaths and disrupted global energy supplies. Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed al-Ansari stated that mediators are exchanging messages to find common ground and avoid further conflict repercussions.

While Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian expressed readiness for talks, President Donald Trump denied reports that he would offer sanctions relief or the release of frozen funds in exchange for nuclear concessions, stating, "I offered them NOTHING!" Trump maintained that Iran must not obtain a nuclear weapon and predicted the war would end soon.

Simultaneously, the United States increased economic pressure by sanctioning 10 entities and individuals linked to Iranian weapons procurement. To mitigate the impact of Iranian restrictions on oil traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, the U.S. government offered to loan 40 million barrels of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to energy companies.
