US and Allies Deploy Aid to Earthquake-Stricken Venezuela

The United States and international partners are mobilizing rescue teams and millions in aid after twin earthquakes killed over 1,400 people in Venezuela.

Two powerful earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude, struck northern Venezuela on June 24, 2026, causing catastrophic building collapses in Caracas and the coastal state of La Guaira. The disaster resulted in a rapidly climbing death toll, with official figures rising from 32 to 589, while other reports indicated over 1,400 deaths and 50,000 people missing. The United States Geological Survey warned that total casualties could eventually exceed 10,000.

Donald Trump authorized a whole-of-government response, mobilizing $150 million in assistance and deploying joint military forces. The U.S. Southern Command deployed warships, including the USS Fort Lauderdale and USS Billings, and transport aircraft to provide airlift and logistics. Major General Kevin J. Jarrard arrived in Caracas to coordinate these military efforts alongside search-and-rescue teams from Los Angeles and Fairfax counties.

Interim President Delcy Rodriguez declared a constitutional state of emergency and coordinated the acceptance of international aid. This cooperation marks a significant diplomatic shift following the U.S. capture of former President Nicolas Maduro in January 2026. Beyond the U.S., rescue brigades and humanitarian aid arrived from El Salvador, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Qatar, Spain, Portugal, and Canada. Additional support was pledged by Iran and the European Union. Private efforts also emerged, including fundraising campaigns by singers Natti Natasha and Rosalía, and community aid drives in Florida and Texas.
