Narendra Modi Unveils Sapta Dhara Roadmap for Developed India 2047

Prime Minister Narendra Modi led India's 80th Independence Day celebrations on August 15, 2026, delivering his 13th consecutive address from the Red Fort in New Delhi. During the ceremony, which featured a 21-gun salute and the first-ever full rendition of Vande Mataram, Modi unveiled the Sapta Dhara framework. This seven-point roadmap focuses on manufacturing, agriculture, technology, infrastructure, defence, the green/blue economy, and soft power to achieve the goal of a developed nation, or Viksit Bharat, by 2047.

Modi announced several strategic initiatives, including a nationwide sports talent hunt for children aged 5–15 to support a 2036 Olympic bid, AI training for 10 million youth, and a target of 100 gigawatts of nuclear power capacity by 2047. He emphasized self-reliance in semiconductors and defense manufacturing, noting India's transition from the Fragile Five to the world's fastest-growing major economy.

Addressing internal security, Modi declared that armed Naxalism and Maoist violence are breathing their last, though he warned against dimagi Naxals—intellectuals with Maoist thinking embedded in public life—who must be identified and isolated. He paid tribute to over 3,500 security personnel killed during the insurgency.

Continuing a tradition since 2014, Modi wore a traditional red Bandhani-print safa from Rajasthan and Gujarat to highlight indigenous craftsmanship. The event took place amid heightened security in Delhi and Gurugram following bomb threats attributed to Babar Khalsa Canada. International reactions included congratulations from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who cited the strong ties between President Donald Trump and Modi.
