India Introduces Three Major Amendment Bills in Parliament

The Government of India scheduled three primary legislative measures for the Monsoon Session of Parliament on July 27, 2026, aimed at strengthening legal frameworks for examinations, the judiciary, and national symbols.

In the Lok Sabha, Union Minister Jitendra Singh introduced The Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, which seeks to increase penal provisions to combat paper leaks in national competitive exams. Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal also moved The Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Bill, 2026. This measure faces a statutory resolution of disapproval from MPs Sougata Ray, NK Premachandran, and Dean Kuriakose regarding a presidential ordinance issued in May 2026.

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah introduced the Prevention of Insults to National Honour (Amendment) Bill, 2026, in the Rajya Sabha to enhance the protection of national symbols. The session also involved the tabling of administrative updates and reports from the Standing Committee on Chemicals and Fertilisers regarding pharmaceuticals and fertilizers. Opposition leaders planned a strategy meeting at 10 am on Monday to coordinate their response to these legislative moves.
