Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf mocked U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday by posting a parody of the Make America Great Again slogan, changing it to Make America Hungry Again. Ghalibaf included statistics on food insecurity in the United States to counter a Newsmax report shared by Trump on Truth Social. The report inaccurately quoted Ghalibaf as saying, "We Are Hungry, We Cannot Survive."

This social media exchange occurs amid escalating tensions between the two nations. Trump recently announced a "crushing economic operation" against Iran as part of a maximum-pressure campaign. The relationship has been defined by a cycle of military strikes and retaliations since February, including Iranian attacks on U.S. and Israeli assets and U.S. strikes on Iranian targets.

While the two countries reached a brief cease-fire in April and signed a memorandum of understanding regarding navigation in the Hormuz Strait in June, that agreement has since stalled. The current rhetoric reflects a return to economic warfare and diplomatic hostility.
