Trump Establishes Donroe Doctrine to Assert Western Hemisphere Dominance

President Donald Trump implemented the Donroe Doctrine, utilizing military operations in Venezuela and threats toward Greenland and Iran to re-establish absolute U.S. regional primacy.

President Donald Trump has implemented the Donroe Doctrine, a foreign policy framework designed to ensure American dominance in the Western Hemisphere. This strategy, formalized in a December 2025 National Security Strategy, prioritizes the Americas over the Indo-Pacific and seeks to eliminate Russian, Chinese, and Iranian influence in the region. The doctrine's primary application was Operation Absolute Resolve, a military operation that extracted former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro from Caracas to face drug trafficking charges.

Expanding this strategic logic to the Arctic, Trump has identified the acquisition of Greenland as a national security priority to deter adversaries. This has caused diplomatic friction with Denmark; Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen warned that military action against a NATO ally would dismantle post-World War II security. Simultaneously, the administration has targeted Colombia and Cuba, with Trump accusing President Gustavo Petro of facilitating cocaine production and suggesting the Cuban government is ready to fall.

Beyond the Americas, Trump applied a similar logic of deterrence through B-2 bomber strikes on Iran's Fordow nuclear facility on June 22, 2025. He has vowed to destroy Iranian infrastructure for every attack in the Strait of Hormuz. Domestically, the administration is pursuing aggressive trade policies, including 50% tariffs on Canadian goods, while rebranding the U.S. Institute of Peace as the Donald J. Trump institute. Trump describes these shifts as ending the Iraq syndrome, replacing long-term nation-building with targeted military and economic actions to restore global deterrence.
