Ukraine Exports Drone Defense Tech Amid U.S. Missile Risks

Ukraine is providing counter-drone expertise to Middle Eastern allies while President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warns that U.S. conflicts with Iran could jeopardize critical missile supplies.

Ukraine has integrated naval and aerial unmanned capabilities to intercept Russian drones over the Black Sea, a milestone achieved by the Unmanned Systems Forces using a Sting drone launched from an uncrewed surface vessel. Following this success, Ukraine has signed agreements to provide training and strategic expertise on countering Iranian-designed drones to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates.

In Saudi Arabia, the U.S. military has already deployed the Ukrainian-developed Sky Map command-and-control platform at Prince Sultan Air Base. This deployment follows Iranian strikes that destroyed a Boeing E-3 Sentry and damaged refueling tankers. The move occurs despite President Donald Trump's earlier assertion that the U.S. did not require Ukrainian assistance with drone defense. The Pentagon has committed $350 million to Operation Epic Fury to bolster these defenses using a mix of Ukrainian software and systems from Northrop Grumman and RTX.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that the ongoing conflict between the U.S. and Iran poses a risk to Ukraine's security. He noted that limited U.S. manufacturing capacity for Patriot anti-ballistic missiles could lead to supplies being diverted to the Middle East. Zelenskyy also cautioned against delaying peace talks regarding Ukraine until the Iran conflict concludes, calling such a delay a big risk. Meanwhile, the European Union approved a 90 billion euro loan for Ukraine after the defeat of Hungarian Prime Minister Victor Orbán, which Zelenskyy described as a matter of surviving.
