Lula Accuses Trump of Attempting to Replace United Nations

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva accused U.S. President Donald Trump of attempting to replace the United Nations with a new entity that Trump would solely own. Speaking during events in Bahia and Rio Grande do Sul, Lula characterized the global political climate as very critical, asserting that unilateralism and the law of the strongest are replacing multilateralism.

Lula specifically criticized Trump for attempting to "rule the world through Twitter." These remarks follow the launch of the Board of Peace initiative by Trump during a ceremony in Davos, Switzerland, as well as the withdrawal of the United States from several UN bodies.

In response to these developments, Lula has increased diplomatic engagement with leaders from China, Russia, India, Hungary, and Mexico. The goal of these contacts is to organize an international meeting to reaffirm a global commitment to multilateralism. Chinese leader Xi Jinping has urged Lula to safeguard the central role of the UN in international affairs.
