Trump Weighs Iran Annihilation Amid UN General Assembly Summit

President Donald Trump is weighing whether to launch large-scale military operations to annihilate the Iranian regime, let it rot economically, or reach a diplomatic deal. This decision comes as the conflict, which began with joint U.S.-Israeli strikes on February 28, enters its seventh month. Trump is scheduled to address the UN General Assembly in New York and meet with leaders from the Gulf Cooperation Council to discuss a postwar strategy. While he expressed openness to meeting Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, he warned that the regime must behave or face severe consequences.

Iran has communicated seven conditions for peace via Qatari and Pakistani mediators, including the release of frozen assets, an end to the U.S. naval blockade, and a cessation of hostilities on all fronts. Iranian officials have warned that any renewed U.S. aggression would trigger painful retaliatory strikes against American bases and interests across the region. Tensions have further escalated with the closure of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran and the seizure of the Bab el-Mandeb Strait by Iran-backed Houthi rebels.

Regional instability has intensified as Houthi forces launched missile and drone attacks on Riyadh and oil facilities in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia. Although Trump claimed the Houthis agreed not to attack the U.S., Saudi Arabia has repeatedly pressed Washington for direct military intervention. Economically, the conflict has driven global crude prices above $100 per barrel and disrupted shipping, forcing Saudi Aramco to reroute oil exports. Domestically, the administration faces pressure from high fuel prices and low approval ratings ahead of the November midterm elections.
