India Cancels Quad Summit Amid Donald Trump Mediation Claims

India will no longer host the Quad Summit originally scheduled for November 2025, according to Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh. Ramesh attributed the cancellation to escalating tensions between India and the United States, sparked by assertions from President Donald Trump regarding his role in a 2025 regional conflict.

Donald Trump claimed in a CBS News interview and a UN address that he prevented a nuclear war between India and Pakistan following the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack. Trump asserted that he halted a military effort known as Operation Sindoor by threatening tariffs and trade restrictions, stating that the two nations would not do business with the U.S. unless they reached a deal.

The Government of India has consistently refuted these claims, maintaining that the ceasefire was achieved bilaterally through the Directors General of Military Operations without third-party involvement. The Indian National Congress party criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his silence on the matter, with Ramesh describing the pursuit of a U.S. trade deal as an ordeal characterized by declining exports and loss of livelihoods.
