US Ambassador Sergio Gor Announces Expanded India-US Cooperation

US Ambassador Sergio Gor announced expanded cooperation in defense, IT, and healthcare during a 250th American independence anniversary event in Kolkata.

US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor announced the expansion of bilateral cooperation between the United States and India across the defense, information technology, and healthcare sectors. Speaking at an event in Kolkata commemorating the 250th anniversary of American independence, Gor cited the Tarang Shakti military exercises in Rajasthan as a primary example of defense engagement, noting the involvement of over 500 troops and the first-time deployment of F-35 aircraft.

Gor highlighted mutual economic integration, noting that American companies are establishing large production facilities in India while Indian investments flow into the US. He specifically pointed to the US reliance on Indian generic pharmaceuticals as a sign of trust in the sector. The event also recognized Kolkata's historical ties to the US, beginning with the 1792 appointment of Benjamin Joy as the city's first American Consul by George Washington.

Ambassador Gor revealed that President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a discussion last week, suggesting further bilateral developments are forthcoming. West Bengal Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Agarwal stated the event serves to strengthen engagement between the US Embassy and the state government, while US Consul General Kathy Giles-Diaz described the anniversary as a reaffirmation of the values and ties uniting the two nations.
