Russia Hits Kyiv in Sixth Day of Massive Strikes

Russian forces conducted a massive aerial assault on Kyiv and surrounding regions on September 1, 2026, marking the sixth consecutive day of heavy strikes. Using ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and jet-powered drones, the attacks killed at least 12 people, including six railway workers and an Indian citizen. Strikes also hit the Odesa region, damaging the Orlivka international ferry crossing on the Romanian border.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that the strikes targeted a residential building and a rail depot. He is currently seeking 300 PAC-3 MSE Patriot interceptors to address critical shortages before winter. While NATO and European Union officials are attempting to secure these missiles from Spain and Greece, both nations have hesitated to release their stocks.

Simultaneously, Ukraine targeted Russian infrastructure, causing fires at the port of Ust-Luga and damaging facilities in the Samara region. Diplomatic efforts continued on the sidelines of international summits. In Kyrgyzstan, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged Vladimir Putin to end the war, while in North Carolina, German Vice-Chancellor Lars Klingbeil and U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent confronted Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov. President Zelenskyy also held a call with U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to coordinate a visit to Ukraine to discuss peace solutions.
