UK Cabinet Office Launches National Emergency Preparedness Campaign

The Cabinet Office is launching a national resilience campaign advising citizens to stock up on bottled water and tinned food to prepare for national emergencies. The initiative aims to ensure households can remain self-sufficient during extreme weather or attacks from hostile states, allowing government resources to be prioritized for vulnerable populations. This push follows an internal reassessment of military attack preparations and increased planning for flooding, extreme heat, and cyber-attacks.

The campaign arrives amid escalating geopolitical tensions. Prime Minister Andy Burnham recently accused the Kremlin of making "outrageous threats" after the United Kingdom provided Ukraine with declassified blueprints for long-range missiles. These tensions are compounded by a recent cyber-attack on a British power plant attributed to hackers linked to Iran, as well as warnings from former Prime Minister Keir Starmer regarding potential Russian aggression against NATO members.

In response to the UK's support for Ukraine, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov claimed that Britain is involved in the war on the side of the Kyiv regime and is working to prevent progress in peaceful settlement processes.
