Iran Issues 48-Hour Ultimatum to Trump Amid Naval Tensions

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi issued a two-day proposal to the White House to end hostilities and reopen the Strait of Hormuz or face severe retaliation.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi issued a formal 48-hour ultimatum to the United States on November 8, 2026, demanding an end to the war on all fronts as a condition for peace and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Araghchi stated that following the U.S. midterm elections, it is time for The White House to make its choice, warning that if the U.S. chooses war, Iran's warriors would "rain down hell."

President Donald Trump responded that renewed strikes are highly unlikely if negotiations regarding Tehran's nuclear program and the Strait of Hormuz progress. However, he warned that U.S. forces are "locked and loaded," noting that three aircraft carriers are stationed in the region and 38 Iranian bridges have been targeted for potential destruction.

The exchange occurs during an eight-month conflict and follows reports of an oil tanker hitting a naval mine east of the Strait of Hormuz. Brigadier-General Ali Belali of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Aerospace Force added that Iran's response would be "devastating and severe" if the enemy makes a mistake. The diplomatic pressure coincides with a shift in U.S. domestic politics, as the Democratic Party recently won control of both chambers of Congress.
