Qatar Presents New Peace Deal to End Iran War

Qatari mediators presented Iran with a seven-day peace proposal to end the conflict with the United States and Israel amid escalating military threats.

Qatari mediators presented Iran with a new draft peace deal on Sunday intended to end the war involving the United States and Israel. The proposal outlines a seven-day timeline of daily confidence-building steps to address the concerns of Tehran and Washington, with several countries expected to serve as guarantors. While some officials expect a response by the end of the week, a senior Iranian official denied the existence of a new proposal, calling Qatar's ideas "unacceptable" and stating Tehran will show no flexibility on the nuclear issue.

The diplomatic push follows a collapsed interim peace agreement from June. Tensions remain high as President Donald Trump has repeated threats to strike Iran, while Iranian security officials have developed plans to target Gulf undersea cables in retaliation for further attacks. The conflict, which began in February, has disrupted global oil supplies and shipping.

In Israel, national elections held Tuesday resulted in a stalemate according to exit polls. A majority voted against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's coalition, although his Likud party remains the largest. Meanwhile, the United States Central Command estimates the war has cost the U.S. military at least $47.1 billion as of mid-October.
