Trump Seeks Law to Restore Blocked Anti-Weaponization Fund

Donald Trump intends to collaborate with Congress to enshrine the Anti-Weaponization Fund in federal law following a series of judicial and administrative setbacks. The fund was established in May 2026 as part of a $10 billion lawsuit settlement between Trump and the Internal Revenue Service, brokered by the United States Department of Justice. The deal granted tax investigation immunity to Trump, his sons, and the Trump Organization, while allocating $1.77 billion to reimburse victims of government weaponization.

On July 13, U.S. District Judge Kathleen Williams ruled that the lawsuit was a bad faith attempt to secure judicial legitimacy for a settlement lacking any legal basis. This ruling led a federal judge in Virginia to bar the fund's operation. In response to pressure from Republican senators, Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche issued a memo on August 2 rescinding the order to launch the fund. Despite these legal challenges and the Justice Department's reversal, Trump stated on August 1 that he remains committed to securing the fund's future through legislative action.
