US Trade Representative Says No Timeline for China Trade Board
Jamieson Greer announced that the US-China Board of Trade has no set implementation timeline and must undergo formal legal processes before reducing tariffs.
United States Trade Representative Jamieson Greer announced Thursday that no specific timeline has been established for the implementation of the US-China Board of Trade. The economic initiative was a primary outcome of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s state visit to Washington last week.
Speaking at the Group of 20 Trade Ministers’ meeting in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Greer explained that proposed tariff reductions under the mechanism are a policy outcome that must undergo a formal legal process before enforcement. This procedure may include releasing recommendations to the public and a period of government deliberation.
The federal government of the United States must make a final legal determination on whether to adopt these recommendations in a formal tariff action. Greer emphasized the necessity of following these established protocols to finalize the initiative.
