Senate Democrats Vow to Block Trump Supreme Court Nominees

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer announced Democrats will block right-wing Supreme Court appointments following their gain of control in the midterm elections.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer announced that Democrats will block President Donald Trump from appointing any right-wing justices to the Supreme Court. Following the party's gain of control in the midterm elections, Schumer stated that the era of a supplicant Senate for Trump has ended and asserted that the party will only support nominees who demonstrate fidelity to the rule of law.

White House spokeswoman Lauren Bis responded by accusing Democrats of politicizing the judiciary and attempting to pack the Court with liberal justices. Bis stated that Trump would not allow the independent judiciary to be ruined.

While Schumer declined to specify if he would leave vacancies open until after the 2028 election, he vowed to block nominees for judicial posts and Cabinet positions he deems inadequate. Meanwhile, Senate Republicans under Majority Leader John Thune continue to prioritize the rapid confirmation of conservative judges, having already confirmed 56 nominees during Trump's second term.
