Trump Administration to Announce Farmer Aid Package Following China Deal
Secretary Brooke Rollins announced a pending financial aid package for American farmers following $50 billion in losses and a new agreement with China to increase crop purchases.
Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins announced that the Trump administration will likely unveil a financial aid package for American farmers within the next one to two weeks. The assistance follows a period of extreme economic strain between 2023 and 2025, during which crop farmers suffered over $50 billion in losses due to surging costs for seed, fuel, and fertilizer combined with plummeting commodity prices.
These challenges were exacerbated by retaliatory trade actions from China, including a de-facto embargo on soybeans earlier in 2025. To mitigate these losses, the administration is exploring the use of tariff revenues to fund the relief, with initial estimates suggesting a payment of up to $12 billion, though some proposals for total disaster and economic aid reach $31 billion.
President Donald Trump reported that Chinese President Xi Jinping has agreed to increase the purchase of U.S. farm products. This development follows the earlier implementation of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which modernized the farm safety net through updated loan rates and expanded crop insurance. Industry leaders, including the American Farm Bureau Federation, emphasize that while immediate aid is necessary to reach the next planting season, long-term reform of reference prices is required to account for inflation.
