China and India Agree to Settle Boundary Dispute

China and India have agreed to pursue a fair and mutually acceptable settlement of their long-standing boundary dispute. The agreement followed a meeting in Beijing on Tuesday between China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi and India's National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, both of whom serve as special representatives for border talks.

The two nations committed to addressing the issue through dialogue and consultation to maintain peace along their 3,488-kilometer unmarked border. This region has remained a source of tension since a deadly clash occurred in June 2020. The officials scheduled the next round of talks to take place in India in 2027.

This diplomatic progress occurs ahead of Chinese President Xi Jinping's expected visit to India in September for the BRICS summit. The meeting follows a previous encounter between Xi and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Tianjin last August.
