Trump Proposes Broad European Security Deal to End Ukraine War

President Donald Trump announced plans for a comprehensive European security agreement following a meeting with a Russian envoy, drawing caution from Ukraine and the European Union.

President Donald Trump announced plans for a "big, beautiful" security agreement to end the war in Ukraine, suggesting the deal could involve all of Europe. The proposal followed a meeting on Thursday with Kirill Dmitriev, the CEO of Russia's sovereign wealth fund and envoy for President Vladimir Putin. Advisor Jared Kushner supported the initiative, calling for a broader European security architecture to reduce escalation risks.

European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas responded by asserting that the European Union must be included in any peace agreement to ensure its implementation. Speaking in Warsaw, Kallas argued that Vladimir Putin lacks the authority to veto decisions regarding European security and emphasized that Ukraine must be integrated into existing frameworks, specifically NATO and the EU.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that a deal between Russia and Europe could be "dangerous," insisting that discussions to end the war must precede security guarantees. These developments occur as NATO holds talks in Brussels and ahead of scheduled trilateral meetings between the United States, Ukraine, and Russia in Abu Dhabi next week. The diplomatic push coincides with ongoing Russian strikes on Ukrainian civilian and energy infrastructure.
