Macron Condemns Foreign Leaders for Exploiting French Unrest
President Emmanuel Macron accused foreign leaders of using AI-generated misinformation to exploit nationwide cost-of-living protests and rioting in France for political gain.
President Emmanuel Macron condemned foreign leaders for making unacceptable and stupid comments regarding nationwide cost-of-living protests that devolved into rioting and looting on October 17. Speaking in Doha, Macron accused leaders facing upcoming elections of exploiting the unrest for political gain and relying on AI-generated fake videos that depicted scenes that never occurred in France.
While Macron did not name the individuals directly, his remarks followed assertions by U.S. President Donald Trump, who linked the violence to immigration, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who claimed France had been hit by an invasion of extremist Islam.
In response to the unrest, the worst the country has seen in years, the French government implemented nighttime curfews in specific zones. Macron vowed that those attempting to cause disorder during further demonstrations planned for Saturday, October 24, will be prevented from doing so, with the state preparing to deploy troops and additional police.
