Iran and Oman Coordinate Management of Strait of Hormuz
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced that Iran and Oman will jointly manage the Strait of Hormuz while Tehran continues indirect negotiations with the United States.
Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced that Iran and Oman will jointly manage the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with international law. Araghchi stated that the two bordering nations possess the natural right to coordinate administrative decisions to ensure the safe passage of all ships. While Tehran intends to exchange views with other Gulf countries, Araghchi emphasized that final management decisions remain with Iran and Oman.
Separately, Araghchi confirmed that the Iranian government remains in continuous contact with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei. He asserted that officials are closely following the Supreme Leader's orders during ongoing indirect negotiations with the United States and denied claims that communication delays have hindered the diplomatic process.
Mojtaba Khamenei assumed leadership in March 2026 following the death of his father, Ali Khamenei. Though the Supreme Leader has largely remained out of the public eye, raising questions about his health, U.S. President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio have indicated that his involvement in negotiations is significant and increasing.
