Senator John Fetterman Opposes Todd Blanche for Attorney General

Senator John Fetterman announced Wednesday that he will not vote to confirm Todd Blanche as attorney general. Speaking on Jon Stewart's podcast, Fetterman stated he does not believe Blanche is the right person for the job, though he has supported other nominees from President Donald Trump, including Pam Bondi and Markwayne Mullin.

Fetterman's opposition follows a 12-10 party-line vote by the Senate Judiciary Committee to advance Blanche's nomination to the full Senate. He joins Republican Senator Susan Collins in opposing the nominee. Collins based her opposition on the belief that Blanche has taken actions that eroded the independence of the Department of Justice.

While some senators remain undecided, including Republicans Bill Cassidy and Lisa Murkowski, others have shifted their positions. Senators John Cornyn and Thom Tillis now support the nomination after Blanche agreed to drop a planned anti-weaponization fund.
