Wang Yi and David Perdue Meet Ahead of Trump-Xi Summit

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and U.S. Ambassador David Perdue met Wednesday to prepare for a summit between President Donald Trump and President Xi Jinping, tentatively scheduled for September 24 at the White House. During the discussions, Wang Yi urged both nations to implement the consensus reached by their heads of state and remove disruptions hindering high-level bilateral exchanges.

Wang Yi acknowledged that China-U.S. relations still face various risks and challenges, calling for both sides to manage differences and focus on a positive agenda. Ambassador Perdue described the meetings as productive, stating that both nations are seeking a relationship of strategic stability based on fairness and reciprocity.

These diplomatic efforts occur amid significant friction. The United States recently banned Chinese-made robots and imposed sanctions on Chinese and Hong Kong entities over economic ties with Iran. In response, the Government of China banned certain American entities from trade activities and vowed to take all necessary measures to protect its relationship with Tehran. The upcoming summit follows a May meeting in Beijing where Trump and Xi pledged to maintain a fragile trade truce.
