Zelenskyy Proposes War Freeze as Putin Agrees to Talks
Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed openness to freezing the war along current front lines as Vladimir Putin agreed to resume trilateral negotiations with the U.S. and Ukraine.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated he would agree to a peace deal that freezes the war along current front lines, describing a ceasefire as the minimum demand for Russia and a realistic method to end the conflict. Zelenskyy proposed that following such a freeze, Ukraine would seek security guarantees from the United States and European partners, insisting that only a summit of leaders can break the current impasse.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has agreed in principle to resume trilateral negotiations with the United States and Ukraine after November 10 to establish a post-conflict security system. This agreement follows a meeting in St. Petersburg between Putin and U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff. Putin also proposed a separate trilateral summit with U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping during next month's APEC summit in China.
President Donald Trump indicated that any meeting with Russia and China would focus on denuclearization rather than the war in Ukraine. Trump has pressed for a deal, suggesting that a different negotiator should represent Kyiv. Despite these diplomatic movements, tensions remain high as both nations continue long-range strikes, including recent Ukrainian drone attacks on St. Petersburg and Russian strikes on energy infrastructure in Kyiv.
