Former Nato Commander Warns Alliance Is At War With Russia
Retired General Curtis Scaparrotti warns Nato is currently at war with Russia through hybrid warfare amid US-Russia diesel deals and drone strikes in Germany.
Retired four-star general Curtis Scaparrotti, former Nato Supreme Allied Commander Europe, stated that Nato is currently at war with Russia due to the Kremlin's strategic use of hybrid warfare. Speaking at an Atlantic Council event in Washington, DC, Scaparrotti warned that Russia employs a doctrine that erases the line between peace and war, utilizing cyber attacks and drone strikes to undermine member states and break the alliance.
These warnings follow recent escalations, including a drone strike on a German airport that European nations blamed on the Kremlin. Simultaneously, diplomatic friction has emerged after President Donald Trump struck a diesel supply deal with Russia to lower domestic fuel prices. Critics claim the agreement bankrolls Russia's war in Ukraine, though Trump has maintained that Vladimir Putin is not looking to attack Nato territory.
In response to the ongoing conflict, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with leadership at Downing Street, where the Government of the United Kingdom pledged continued support for Ukraine. The UK also identified its undersea cables as being particularly vulnerable to Russian sabotage.
