Trump Rejects Iran Proposal as Diplomatic Talks Stall
President Donald Trump rejected an Iranian proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz as U.S. officials ordered the Iranian delegation to leave New York.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio ordered the Iranian foreign minister and his delegation to leave New York earlier than planned following the conclusion of U.N. General Assembly sessions. The order followed the collapse of high-stakes negotiations regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and Iran's nuclear program. While the U.S. administration claimed the delegation overstayed their welcome, the Iranian delegation disputed the account, stating they departed according to a schedule communicated to the State Department on September 17.
Donald Trump rejected a recent Iranian proposal to reopen the strait, characterizing the offer as "not good enough." The diplomatic stalemate has contributed to rising energy costs, with Brent crude settling above $103 a barrel.
Trump signaled a potential shift toward more aggressive military action in the Middle East following the November midterms. He noted that the United States has spent six months rebuilding its military arsenal to prepare for such contingencies.
