India and Canada Agree to Expand Defense Cooperation

India and Canada have agreed to strengthen defense cooperation, specifically targeting maritime collaboration, training, and capacity-building. The deal was finalized in Ottawa during a meeting between India's High Commissioner to Canada, Dinesh K. Patnaik, and Canadian Minister of National Defence David McGuinty.

These security agreements follow a sequence of diplomatic engagements. Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar recently met with Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand in Manila to align relationship goals. Earlier, Narendra Modi and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney reviewed the broader bilateral relationship during the G7 Summit in Evian, France.

During the G7 summit, the two prime ministers discussed expanding cooperation across trade, energy, technology, and the economy. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to peace and stability, noting the frequency of their meetings over the past year as a sign of strengthening ties.
