British Army Chief Warns Nation Must Prepare for War

General Sir Roland Walker warned troops and citizens that the UK must prepare for war as Russian aggression and diplomatic rifts with the US increase.

General Sir Roland Walker, head of the British Army, informed soldiers at Catterick Garrison that the United Kingdom will soon require its troops to fight in a war. Walker stated that political leaders will soon hold a frank conversation with the public to secure consent for sacrifices to prioritize national defense and security.

These warnings follow a surge in Russian aggression, including naval probes in the English Channel and covert submarine operations targeting UK communication cables, alongside Iran-linked plots against British military sites. MI5 Chief Sir Ken McCallum identified Russia as a primary aggressor, urging the public to take a stake in national resilience. In response, Prime Minister Andy Burnham is expected to launch a campaign encouraging household resilience for crises and armed conflict.

Diplomatic tensions have risen between the UK and the United States after President Donald Trump eased sanctions on Russian diesel. Prime Minister Burnham and King Charles have openly backed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, with Burnham accelerating the delivery of air defense missiles to Ukraine. To address the rift, Defence Secretary Wes Streeting met with US Secretary Pete Hegseth at the Pentagon, where Hegseth confirmed the restoration of Starlink services for Ukraine.
